Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 R2 was released in the beginning of June. Set to target small to mid-sized businesses, the release brought in new functionality that was unavailable in previous releases. Here are some notable features that the release offers:

1. Ability to Display Debits Before Credits

Under the account transaction reporting options, the debit column is now displayed before the credit column by default.  This new feature applies to SmartLists, Excel reports, database tables and views where the reports are based on.

2. Email Capability on All Sales Order Document Formats

For any document format, users now have the email option for all Sales Order documents when printing from the Transaction Entry Window, Print Sales Documents window, and Navigation Lists.

3. Self Service User Tasks

The Self Service user type gives limited access to the system for users who want a more cost effective way to perform tasks such as entering project time and expenses, creating a requisition or entering payroll time. Task and role assignment can now be more efficient as this feature includes Employee Self Service Security Roles that allows the user to filter security tasks for each user type.

4. All in One Document View

Users can now save time searching for information from a purchasing document. The feature allows users to view relating purchasing documents in a single window that can be accessed from the Vendor Maintenance window, Navigation lists and the Home Page. By default, the user’s most recent documents will appear on the window and navigation buttons provide the ability to see the next set of five transactions.

5. Combine General Ledger Inquiry

Inquiry windows have been consolidated in GP 2015 R2’s General Ledger. This feature allows users to view open and historical information within the same window as the Summary Inquiry, Detail Inquiry and Account Summary. Drill-backs and Go-To’s are now displayed in a single window, enabling the user to easily view data instead of having to choose one window over the other.

Come July 14, Microsoft is set to end support for Microsoft Server 2003. After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates, fixes or online support for Windows Server 2003. Businesses across Canada who choose not to upgrade could leave themselves and their customers exposed to security risks, increased compliance, electronic data loss, hackers and may lose the ability to accept credit cards.

According to Microsoft Canada, big companies would take about 150 to 200 days to upgrade its servers. While migrating to an updated operating system comes with some challenges, the gains would ultimately outweigh the risks that not upgrading would pose to businesses and customers. Businesses should see this as an opportunity to modernize infrastructure or consider hosted options for securing data.

Microsoft Canada suggests that customers can either upgrade and migrate to a new server software (such as Windows Server 2012 R2) or use cloud services which would cost less than a migration, reduce hardware and still provide adequate protection.

For businesses considering hosted services on the cloud, WebSan Solutions offers Microsoft Dynamics GP and CRM which allows for rapid deployment, low total cost of ownership and a robust solution that scales and grows depending on a business’ needs. Reduce the number of days it would take for your business to upgrade by switching to one of WebSan Solutions’ Microsoft Dynamics GP and CRM offerings.

An Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system helps integrate processes which are essential to a business, including accounting, inventory, order management, human resources, and Customer Relationship Management (CRM). Today, an increasing number of both big and small to mid-sized organizations use ERP software to help streamline processes and information across the organization and integrate these functions into a single, complete system.

Software Advice, a trusted resource and advisory firm for software buyers recently conducted a study that analyzed the purchasing behaviour and implementation concerns of 250 prospective ERP software buyers. The study reveals that 54 percent of current ERP users are dissatisfied with their systems’ integration capabilities—this is one of the main reasons why many are seeking out a new ERP system.

ERP Implementation and Support

The study notes that 24 percent of buyers want to replace their current ERP software due to a lack of technical support. Forrest Burnson, the study’s main researcher, says, "It's critical for firms to carefully assess how capable they are in selecting and implementing a new ERP system. All too often there is a disconnect between a firm's expectations and what the vendor will actually provide in terms of implementation services and continued support. As ERP systems are significant investments, it is wise for prospective buyers to seek the help of a third party consulting firm if they're unable to do all of the due diligence in-house to ensure that the selection and implementation processes go smoothly.”

What WebSan Solutions Can Offer

Implementing an ERP system that caters to a business’ needs and budget is no easy task. Along with a system that is fully functional, organizations should seek a cost-effective support service to ensure that the system runs smoothly and effectively.

As the study further details, an ERP system has a life cycle of 10 years or more, making it more critical that businesses ensure that their ERP system grows and scales according to their business’ immediate and future needs.

WebSan Solutions offers Microsoft Dynamics GP implementation along with valuable resources like training, free webinars and outstanding support. We believe in offering professional, practical advice that is customized to help businesses achieve long term growth.

Factors to Consider When Choosing an ERP system

With the New Year fast approaching, your company has decided to adopt/upgrade to an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. Congratulations! Making the decision to adopt/upgrade to an ERP system already puts you ahead of your competition.

ERP Map

An ERP system is a powerful tool that helps you efficiently analyze, interpret, and execute the core activities of each department of your business on a day-to-day basis. Companies who seek to adopt/upgrade to an ERP system do so in order to integrate the different programs they're using for different departments into one suite. An ERP system helps reduce costs because any previous delays or duplication of work is avoided. For example, a company may calculate their sales revenue using one type of software meanwhile using separate software to produce a financial report. An ERP system integrates the two actions whereby once the sales revenue is calculated, the ERP system uses the same information to produce a financial report. A benefit of having these separate processes integrated is that the same information flows from each department which results in less errors made, in addition to better business decisions made. Resources such as time and staff are reduced (not to mention the complexity) which boosts the company's bottom-line.

Other benefits and features of an ERP System include:
• Access to all the company's information across all departments in real-time
• Stronger customer relations through better access of customer information as part of your company's practices in customer relationship management (CRM)
• Improved controls at each stage of the supply chain
• Enhanced security with access to a single set of user settings to better protect your company's information
• Less training and implementation necessary because all staff are trained to use the same system

Consider the following when adopting/upgrading to an ERP system:

Costs & Benefits
• What is your budget?
• What is your firm looking to achieve?

Competition
• What system(s) is your industry/competitor using?
• Are you looking to adopt/upgrade to keep pace with competition?

Training and Implementation
• How much time are you seeking for the ERP system to be up and running on its own?
• How much level of support are you looking for in an ERP partner?

If you're shopping for an ERP System, WebSan Solutions is a Microsoft Dynamics Certified Partner. With over a decade of experience in Enterprise Software solutions, the experts at WebSan know how to help you transform your business.

In the "Column Stack" section, select the desired arrangement. Selecting "Right" places the minimized windows at the right side of the screen, 'Top' would place them at the top, etc. This will make navigating the menus easier for you.
