Is Microsoft Copilot Worth It? Here’s What We’ve Learned

With the rise of AI-driven productivity tools, many businesses are asking the same question: Is Microsoft 365 Copilot worth the cost? At WebSan Solutions, we've been testing Copilot extensively with our clients and internal teams, and the verdict is in—mostly.

Here's what we've learned from real-world use and a hands-on look into what Copilot does well—and where it still needs some work.

What Is Microsoft Copilot?

Microsoft 365 Copilot is a digital assistant designed to take over routine, non-value-added tasks. Initially only available to enterprise clients, it's now open to businesses of any size with just a single-user annual commitment.

It's embedded across apps like Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Visio, Teams, and the Edge browser. From summarizing documents to drafting responses, Copilot promises to boost productivity—if used for the right tasks.

Where Copilot Really Shines

1. Teams Meeting Recaps

This is by far the standout feature. Copilot can summarize meetings, generate action items, and even draft an email to all attendees with the recap. It does this with about 90–95% accuracy. Just ensure your meetings are recorded and transcribed—Copilot handles the rest. Compared to Teams Premium's built-in recap feature, Copilot's version is far superior.

2. Email Summaries in Edge

Executives and managers will appreciate how Copilot can summarize emails from the previous day and surface actionable items. Simply ask it, "What do I need to follow up on?" and it will comb through your inbox to highlight key information.

3. Search and Recall

Whether it's locating files, summarizing documents, or retrieving previous emails, Copilot often performs better than the native search functions in Outlook or Teams. It's also embedded in the Edge browser, where you can prep for meetings, find calendar details, or search past communications with ease.

Where It Still Needs Work

1. PowerPoint & Word Integration

While Copilot can generate content outlines and turn Word docs into presentations, the formatting process is far from seamless. Applying custom templates (like WebSan's own) requires extra steps, and the AI-generated content still needs a human touch to feel natural.

2. Email Drafting

Yes, Copilot can suggest email responses—but it's not quite time-saving yet. Often, the time spent editing the response equals what you'd spend writing it manually (or using voice dictation). This is likely an area where Microsoft will invest more heavily in improvements.

The Bottom Line: Is It Worth It?

Microsoft Copilot is priced at $30 USD or $40.70 CAD per user/month, billed annually. There are no trials—so the decision needs to be made with confidence.

From our experience, yes, it's worth it—especially if your team spends a lot of time in meetings, searching for documents, or sifting through mountains of emails. The time savings alone from meeting recaps can justify the cost for many executives and managers.

PowerPoint, Word, and email functionalities aren't quite where they need to be, but the tool is evolving rapidly. Microsoft is investing heavily in this platform, and we expect significant improvements over time.
